Alien: Out of the Shadows: Ultrasound
The key focus of the 2nd promotional trailer was to slightly confuse, then unnerve and finally shock the viewer. It also takes the form of recovered classified footage but this is of a far more personal matter.
We see what is recognisable as an ultrasound. The familiar scenes of what is normally a joyous and happy event unfold along with the accompanying sounds. We develop the pace and tension through the introduction of a very subtle / sinister base note. We then finally reveal what is growing inside our expectant host ending with a sudden high-pitched inhuman sound.
The trailer was also released without the Weyland Yutani classified intro, through social media and sci-fi forums to generate interest without revealing the new title. This also increased the viewer’s shock, as it wasn't instantly recognisable as an Alien branded product. It was then shared as a fun/shocking clip to friends and colleagues.
The viewer feedback was fantastic and it generated an unprecedented amount of interest in the new drama.
