Carmilla
I was asked by Audible Originals to develop a promotional trailer and master artwork to their new audio adaptation of J. Sheridan Le Fanu's classic gothic novella, Carmilla - starring Rose Leslie, David Tennant and Phoebe Fox.
From the outset I decided to work with my creative partner Bart Reszelski on this project due to his amazing motion graphics skill and understanding of CGI development. We wanted the approach to be both sophisticated and stylish, allowing it to stand out from other titles within this subject matter. Also due to the limitations of cast availability, it was decided that a non-filmed treatment would work the best.
We represented the innocence of the main character as a white rose that is slowly enveloped and covered in blood, symbolising her seduction and corruption by the drama’s villain Carmilla.
Both the trailer and master artwork were created in wire frame formats allowing us to explore many different approaches. Once the client was happy with the creative, the fluid dynamics were developed and the whole creative animated and rendered. We then created an additional rose for the key artwork and further developed this in postproduction.
